A free bet is bonus stake money from a bookmaker that you can place on a selection of your choice. If the bet wins, you keep the profit; if it loses, you have lost nothing of your own. Many Nigerian betting sites offer free bets to new customers and as regular promotions. Below we compare betting sites with free bets, show how the main Nigerian free bet offers differ and explain how free bet winnings are paid.

18+. Offers and terms change often: always read the full terms on the operator site before you deposit.
The table shows each operator's current welcome offer, which may be a free bet, a deposit bonus or both. Ongoing free bet promotions change weekly, so check each site's promotions page as well.
Free bet offers at Bet9ja, BetKing, NairaBet and MSport
Four of the sites above pay their welcome value mainly as free bets, and each works differently. Bet9ja's is a "bet and get": place a first qualifying bet with your own money and a free bet follows (N2,500 free bet after first qualifying bet of N1,000). BetKing credits a small free bet plus Aviator free flights on registration, then larger free bets for later activity (N100 free bets + 10 free Aviator flights on registration, then up to N1,000,000 in free bets); that registration reward is the closest thing to the "100 naira free bet" many punters search for. NairaBet matches the first deposit in free bets that must go on single bets at minimum odds of 1.50 within seven days. MSport uses first-deposit vouchers for football at minimum odds of 3.00.
Betway, 1xBet and 22Bet lead with deposit matches instead, and Betway's is paid as free bets with accumulator rules attached. SportyBet listed no welcome offer on its official promotions page in October 2026, so any SportyBet free bet you see advertised elsewhere should be checked against the operator's own page.
How free bets work
The key detail that surprises many punters: with most free bets, the stake is not returned. Here is a worked example with illustration figures:
- You receive a N1,000 free bet and place it at odds of 3.00.
- If it wins, a normal bet would return N3,000 (stake plus profit).
- With a typical free bet you receive N2,000, the profit only, because the N1,000 stake was never yours.
Some free bets are "stake returned", which is better, but that is less common. The terms will say which type you have.
Common types of free bet offers
| Offer | How you get it |
|---|---|
| Free bet on registration | Credited after sign-up and verification, sometimes with no deposit |
| Bet and get | Place a qualifying bet with your own money, receive a free bet |
| Acca insurance | If one leg of a qualifying accumulator loses, your stake comes back as a free bet |
| Loyalty or app rewards | Free bets for regular play, app downloads or special events |
| Free bet codes | Codes shared by the operator through SMS, email or social media |
Small amounts like a 100 naira free bet are common in loyalty and app promotions. They will not change your life, but they are a free way to try a market you would not normally bet on.
Minimum odds, expiry and the other rules
- Minimum odds. Most free bets must be placed at or above a minimum price, either on a single or on each leg of an accumulator.
- Expiry. Free bets typically expire after a few days if not used.
- Market restrictions. Some can only be used on football, or on pre-match bets, or exclude virtual sports.
- No splitting. Usually a free bet must be used in full on one bet.
- Wagering on winnings. Some sites require free bet winnings to be wagered before withdrawal.
Choosing odds for a stake-not-returned free bet
- Pick moderate odds. Because the stake is not returned, a free bet at 1.20 gives you almost nothing even if it wins. Odds between about 2.00 and 5.00 usually give the best balance of chance and payout.
- Use a single or a short double. Long accumulators with a free bet look exciting but almost always lose.
- Bet on what you know. A free bet on a league you follow closely beats a random pick on a league you have never watched.
- Use it before it expires. Set a reminder if you are not planning to bet for a few days.
- Combine with research. Our daily predictions explain the reasoning behind each pick, which is a good starting point for a free bet selection.
Free bets today: where to look
Beyond welcome offers, free bets for existing customers appear in a few predictable places: the promotions tab in the app, SMS and email from the bookmaker if you have opted in, official social media pages around big matches, and loyalty or rewards sections. Big tournaments and derbies tend to bring the most free bet promotions. Turn on notifications only from the official app, and ignore messages from numbers or pages that are not verified as the operator's own.
"Free bet websites" that want your OTP
A genuine free bet comes from a licensed bookmaker and appears in your account. Be careful of:
- Websites or social pages promising free bets in exchange for your login details or OTP.
- "Free bet" offers that require you to pay a fee to activate.
- Unlicensed sites with huge free bet promises and no clear terms.
Only claim free bets on the official site or app of an operator that shows a valid Nigerian licence, and never through a link sent by a stranger.
How to claim your free bet
- Choose a site from the table and register through the official link.
- Opt in to the offer and enter a promo code if required.
- Complete the qualifying step: verification, a first deposit (bank transfer, USSD, card, OPay, PalmPay where supported) or a qualifying bet.
- Find the free bet on your bet slip, usually as a toggle or a separate balance, and apply it to your selection.
Betting is for adults 18+. Free bets are a bonus, not a reason to bet more than you can afford.
Frequently asked questions
What is a free bet?
A free bet is bonus stake money from a bookmaker. If it wins you usually keep the profit but not the stake; if it loses you lose nothing of your own.
Which betting sites give a free bet on registration?
BetKing credits a small free bet and Aviator free flights on registration, and Bangbet offers new users a free bet to collect within three days. Bet9ja's free bet needs a first qualifying bet.
How does the Bet9ja free bet work?
Bet9ja credits a free bet after your first qualifying bet with your own money. The amount and qualifying stake are shown in our table; the free bet itself cannot be withdrawn, only its winnings.
What odds should I use for a free bet?
Moderate odds, roughly 2.00 to 5.00, usually make the best use of a free bet because the stake is not returned with your winnings. Check the minimum odds first: NairaBet's welcome free bets need 1.50 or more.
Can I withdraw a free bet?
You cannot withdraw the free bet itself. You can withdraw winnings from it, subject to any wagering rules in the terms.
